Papoose (rapper)
Shamele Mackie (born 1979) more known by his stage name Papoose, is a rapper who was born in Africa and raised in the Bed-Stuy section of Brooklyn. Papoose has built up a large fanbase through his large number of mixtapes. He was first introduced to the public in 1998 when he did a song with from DJ Kay Slay's Streetsweeper, Vol. 2: The Pain From The Game, a mixtape-like album released in 2004 on Sony. He won the 2005 MTV Justo Award for the best underground rapper of the year. One of his most notable songs, which fans generally recommend to new listeners, is "Alphabetical Slaughter" where Papoose proceeds to rap using only the letters of the alphabet in sequence.
Known better for his rhyme scheme and inventive flow in which he adds force to the end of a rhyme. Many compare his flow to deceased legend Big L. He has done mixtapes with Roc-A-Fella artist Memphis Bleek.
Papoose is currently finished with his long awaited debut album currently titled The Nacirema Dream ("Nacirema" being "American" backwards). It will be released under DJ Kay Slay's Record company "Streetsweepers Entertainment", in the Summer of 2006. He is also featured on Busta Rhymes' song "Touch It (Remix)". He also is featured on the remix of Chamillionaire's song, Ridin'.
Papoose has now joined Busta Rhymes' group, The Flipmode Squad, after rumours he would join Dipset or even G-Unit.
He was featured performing a freestyle on Kanye West's and Clinton Sparks' Mixtape "Touch The Sky".
In a recent interview with NobodySmiling.com, an online website, he stated that he doesn't have one tattoo on his body. "Who told you I had a tattoo? I don’t have one tattoo on my body. Those were camera tricks, baby. " It seems to be true as none of these tattoos can be seen in his latest video Crowded from May, 2005.
