U.S. pop singer Beyonce to perform at opening of Donbass Arena stadium in Donetsk, Ukraine
Kyiv, July 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) - U.S. pop singer Beyonce Knowles will perform during the opening of the Donbass Arena stadium in Donetsk late in August, Music World/Columbia Records has reported.
The statement reads that Beyonce will perform in Ukraine following her one-off show at the Summer Sonic Festival in Japan in August, and will then resume her "I AM..." world tour with concerts planned for Australia, Japan, Korea, Asia, Africa, with a return to Europe slated for November. The singer's "I AM..." tour achieved a remarkable 97% ticket sell-through (357,074 seats out of a possible 368,210) on 29 shows from Croatia to Sacramento, with reported grosses topping $36 million.
The opening of the first five-star stadium in Ukraine, the Donbass Arena, the stadium of a leading Ukrainian football club Shakhtar Donetsk, is slated for August 29, 2009. The official producer of the show is Italy's K-Events, part of the FilmMaster Group. The company produced the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, and the closing ceremony of the 2006 Paralympics.
Apart from the official part of the event, the organizers of the show in Donetsk promised a grand choreographic and fireworks show, compared, in terms of its scale, to the opening of the Olympic Games, and a performance by the world's pop star.
